Inspired by Nina Simone’s life, Apphia Campbell’s play features live performances of many of Simone’s iconic songs. It follows a successful singer and civil-rights activist seeking redemption after her father’s untimely death, looking back from her beginnings as a young piano prodigy intended for church service to becoming a renowned jazz vocalist at the forefront of the Civil Rights Movement.
