Two-time Grammy Award-winner Jon Cleary returns to Australia with his longtime New Orleans backing band, The Absolute Monster Gentlemen. Cleary performs on keyboards, guitar and vocals alongside a band rooted in the city’s funk, R&B and second-line traditions, delivering groove-led, soulful music shaped by New Orleans rhythm. Born in London, he moved to New Orleans at 19 and worked with artists including Earl King, Johnny Adams, Walter ‘Wolfman’ Washington, Snooks Eaglin, Ernie K-Doe, Jessie Hill and Dr. John. His recordings include his self-titled band debut, the 2015 Grammy-winning Go-Go Juice, and 2024’s The Bywater Sessions, which expanded the band to its largest lineup yet.
