Tinariwen, the Tuareg band founded in 1979 in northern Mali, brings its assouf style to City Recital Hall. Their music addresses the struggles, exile and hopes of Tuareg people through a blend of blues, Saharan traditions and Arab influences. The group rose to prominence with The Radio Tisdas Sessions and has since released nine albums. It is preparing a tenth studio album, conceived as a return to its early spirit: rawer sound, less-polished electric guitars, more female voices and collective recording.
