Bertrand Cuiller makes his Australian debut on harpsichord with Julia Fredersdorff and Van Diemen’s Band. Their Restless Baroque programme centres on J. S. Bach’s Harpsichord Concerto No. 1 in D minor, BWV 1052, framed by 17th-century English court and theatre music. It includes Locke’s Consort of Four Parts and selections from his music for The Tempest; Purcell’s Curtain Tune from Timon of Athens; Handel’s Water Music; works by Picforth and Brade; and Donald Nicolson’s Lachrimae after Schop and Dowland. A newly commissioned Jane Sheldon work, inspired by Byrd, receives its world premiere.
