Ukrainian quartet DakhaBrakha bring their self-described “ethno chaos” to City Recital Hall. Their music begins with Ukrainian polyphony and threads it through complex rhythms and melodic structures informed by Arabia, India, Africa, Australia and elsewhere, alongside jazz, rap, punk and sounds from nature. The group’s name means “Give/Take” in the old language, reflecting an approach that connects Ukrainian tradition with musical influences from around the world. Their 2025 album Ptakh was recorded in Kyiv and combines material written both before and during Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
