Amsterdam’s Altın Gün bring Turkish folk, psych-rock and dancefloor grooves to Australia. Since their 2018 debut, On, the group have reworked Turkish folk and Anatolian psychedelia through bağlama melodies, wah-wah guitar, heavy bass, organ and percussion, drawing on artists including Barış Manço and Erkin Koray. Their fifth album, Garip, honours Turkish singer, songwriter and bağlama player Neşet Ertaş: its songs of love, longing and everyday life are reshaped with funk-rock, synthesisers, slide guitar and strings from the Stockholm Studio Orchestra. For vocalist and bağlama player Erdinç Eçevit, the record also reconnects with music from his childhood.
