Creative Studio — Sculpture

FUNGI & FRIENDS

Saturday 21 November 2026 | 10am–1pm

SATORI EARTH | Palmwoods, Sunshine Coast

Workshop fee: $85 per person

Ages: Adults and young people 12+

Places: Limited to 8 participants

Experience: Beginners welcome — no previous sculpture or pottery experience required.

Come and create something wonderful in clay.

Join me for a three-hour sculpture studio exploring the small, strange and wonderful world of fungi and the creatures who inhabit the forest floor.

Create your own sculptural piece inspired by mushrooms, a mouse, hedgehog, frog or a little woodland dwelling.

I'll guide you through hand-building and sculpting techniques, including shaping forms, joining clay, constructing features, and introducing texture, detail and colour using underglazes.

You'll learn practical techniques while having the freedom to experiment and develop your own interpretation. The intention isn't for everyone to create the same sculpture.

What's included — $85

Three hours of guided sculpture in a small studio group, with individual instruction.

Clay: All clay required to create one workshop-sized sculptural piece.

Underglazes: Colours to add surface detail and character to your sculpture during the session.

First firing — bisque: Once completely dry, your sculpture will be bisque fired in the SATORI EARTH kiln.

Transparent glazing: Following the bisque firing, I'll apply a transparent glaze to your sculpture.

Second firing — glaze: Your sculpture will be fired a second time to complete the ceramic process.

Shared studio tools, materials and equipment.

Tea and biscuits.

Both kiln firings, transparent glazing and all materials are included in your $85 workshop fee. There are no additional firing charges for your workshop piece.

Finished sculptures will remain at SATORI EARTH throughout the drying, glazing and firing process. You'll be notified when your piece is ready for collection.

What to bring

An apron or clothes you're comfortable getting clay and underglaze on.

A water bottle.

A snack or sandwich if you'd like something more substantial to eat during the session.

Your own pottery or sculpting tools, if you have them.

A mug you'd be happy to write your name on and leave at the studio! A little tradition among sculptors — your own studio mug, ready for your next visit.

Tea and biscuits will be provided.

New to sculpture?

Shared tools will be available.

An optional Starter Sculpting Tool Kit ($20) will also be available to purchase for anyone wishing to begin building their own collection of tools.

More than technique

At the heart of my work through Nic Anderson Earth is the understanding that creativity is one of the ways we reconnect with our inherent nature.

Art isn't simply about learning technique or producing something aesthetically pleasing. It's a way of observing, listening and allowing something within us to find expression.

My role is to provide enough structure, guidance and technique for you to explore confidently, while leaving room for your own instincts, imagination and creative language to enter the work.

Monthly Sculpture Studio

Sculpture Studio is a regular monthly offering at SATORI EARTH, bringing together different sculptors, ceramic artists and facilitators to share their skills, techniques and creative approaches.

Sessions may be led by visiting artists and collaborators, or by Nic Anderson.

Each month explores a different creative theme or sculptural technique. Every session stands alone, so you're welcome to join occasionally or make it part of your regular creative practice.

Booking conditions

Bookings are non-refundable. If you're unable to attend, your booking may be transferred as a credit towards a future Sculpture Studio session, provided at least 48 hours' notice is given.

Credits are valid for three months and subject to availability.

I look forward to creating with you.
