To the Owner features new and recent works by Alana Hunt, a non-Indigenous artist whose practice over the last decade has examined the contemporary violence of settler-colonialism.
One of the central works in the exhibition, To the Owner (of multiple properties) is an ongoing work that circulates inside and outside the gallery. Presented in full for the first time, it comprises the delivery of more than 3,000 oversized letters to some of the wealthiest streets in the wealthiest suburbs of Sydney. Each letter contains a playful yet genuine proposition: that owners of multiple homes provide the artist with free housing for a decade. Deadpan in tone, the letters reveal the absurdity of wealth accumulation and class privilege on unceded Aboriginal Land.
Hunt invites you to deliver these letters with her across select Friday dates during the course of her exhibition at UTS Gallery.
