Editing the work of writers is a careful act of collaboration. In this series of monthly workshops, you will learn how to communicate effectively with writers at each stage of the editorial process to ensure a positive and encouraging experience for everyone involved.

Each week, participants can bring along a piece by another writer to workshop their feedback as we work our way through the various stages of the editorial process.

This is a hands-on inclusive experience, providing all participants with the opportunity to discuss the ins and outs of each weekly topic together, while guided by a professional editor.

Structural editing is a tailored, collaborative process designed to strengthen a manuscript’s organisational architecture, content, and pacing. Facilitated by emerging writer and freelance editor Caitlin Kotula, this inclusive workshop introduces you to the first stage of the editing process and provides you with practical tips for undertaking a big-picture review of fiction and narrative non-fiction drafts.

You’ll learn to identify and analyse core story elements, and practice writing constructive, professional feedback for other writers in a hands-on workshopping activity. Writing samples will be provided on the day, but participants are welcome to bring their own short piece by another writer.
