After God

Sat 17 Oct 7pm - 8:50pm

Circa Theatre, Wellington

From the creators of the wildly praised, fiercely original verbatim plays TRANSMISSION and TRANSMISSION:BETA, the New Zealand premiere of AFTER GOD is a theatrical journey across continents and conversations, with one of Aotearoa’s most distinguished actors, Michael Hurst, joining director Miranda Harcourt and writer Stuart McKenzie to explore big questions about meaning, madness and metaphysics.

With a hungry mind and burning questions, McKenzie hits the road — travelling from Wellington to Kathmandu, London and New York. Along the way, he encounters a vivid cast of real-life characters: theologians, Tibetan rinpoches, philosophers, cosmologists, taxi drivers, hotel receptionists, a famous singing nun — and his own mother. Each has their own radically different way of making sense of existence.

Created entirely from real conversations, AFTER GOD is a new verbatim theatre work, transforming interviews, ideas and personal stories into an exhilarating theatrical experience.

It’s a funny, provocative and hopeful exploration of what we believe, what keeps us going and what it means to be alive right now.
