Poetry and Pūrākau is an inspiring evening of storytelling that brings together Māori poets, writers, and performers from across Te Tai Tokerau and the wider motu. This bilingual gathering celebrates the power of the spoken word, creating a space where stories are woven together through poetry, performance, and pūrākau.

The Turner Centre welcomes ten artists to the stage, each bringing their unique creative practice and perspective to an evening dedicated to ancestry, identity, whenua, and connection. Through their mahi, these artists honour the enduring and sacred practice of Māori storytelling.

Hosted by Ruiha Manuel, Poetry and Pūrākau reflects our community's commitment to embracing reo rua, creating opportunities for te reo Māori and English to exist side by side in celebration, dialogue, and shared understanding.
