Be immersed in the healing sounds of Taonga Puoro Māori, creating an orchestra of nature that invites us to reconnect with te taiao.

Taonga puoro practitioners Ruihaa and Puoro Jerome are bringing the ORO ATUA to Zealandia Te Māra a Tāne for an immersive experience of rongoā Māori through the healing sounds of taonga puoro, reconnecting us with nature.

ORO ATUA is a continuing practice and modern revival established in 2003 utilising taonga puoro as a powerful mode of rongoā Māori. ORO ATUA is based on a tupuna practice and adapted for current times and the challenges we all face.

Simply put ORO is the vibration of sound and ATUA refer to our Atua Māori that sing through each puoro, creating an orchestra of nature to help reconnect us all to the natural world.

Each taonga puoro hold the resonance and vibration of the different parts of te taiao opening the door to oneself and ultimately creates time and space for reflection, self healing and for solutions to arise in this fast paced, time poor, modern world we live in.

Through sharing the sounds of their whānau collection of taonga puoro Maori "Te Tini a Haa" in combination with modern sound technologies they bring together the ancient and the new. They'll also share whanau and hapū specific pūrākau, ruruku/karakia and waiata relating to each taonga puoro and varying Atua Māori. Together these taonga tuku iho hold keys and solutions to the challenges we all face.

This event will be held in the Pāteke Room, located on level 2 of the Zealandia Visitor Centre.

Space and mats will be available for participants to sit or lie down throughout the experience.
