As part of the Rising Voices Fellowship, Mother Tongue Poetry is presenting a series of public workshops to upskill and equip local writers beyond our core fellowship group. The workshop themes will be set by the journey the Fellows decide to take and will be designed to support their progress whilst also allowing the wider community to engage with the program.

WORKSHOP: Ritual and Presence in Performance

This workshop will explore the overlap of ritual and performance. How being deeply present in your body, harnessing intention and the energy of your spirit can elevate a performance from something that you do to something that you live and breathe.

FACILITATOR BIO: Jaime Willoughby

Jaime Willoughby (they/them) is a Queer South African Ceremonialist, Somatic Sex Educator, Drag King and Storyteller. They are passionate about the arts being used as a channel for truth, self-expression and healing. Inspired by their ancestral roots and precolonial perspectives, Jaime bridges ancient ritualistic modalities with modern expressions of art to create performances that speak directly to the audience's humanity.
