Gaja 1859: One Heritage, Four Legacies

A masterclass with Francesco Giardino, Export Sales Manager, Gaja

Few names in Italian wine carry the weight of Gaja. Founded in Barbaresco in 1859, the family has spent five generations questioning convention. They put Barbaresco on the world stage, planted Cabernet in the Langhe when no one else would, and built estates in Montalcino, Bolgheri and on Mount Etna. Each estate has its own identity, and all are shaped by one family philosophy.

The evening features Gaia & Rey, a wine that began as an act of defiance: in 1979, Angelo Gaja planted Chardonnay in the heart of Nebbiolo country, when almost no one in Piedmont dared. Named for his daughter Gaia and grandmother Clotilde Rey, it has become a legend of Italian white wine.

Hosted in RIEDEL's new event space, The Crystal Room, each wine is served in the correct RIEDEL varietal-specific glass for the ultimate tasting experience.

Francesco will take you on a journey through the Gaja family’s four estates, from the hills of Piedmont to the slopes of Mount Etna, sharing the stories behind each wine and the family behind them all. Join us for a rare chance to taste the wines that redefined what Italy could achieve.
