Troth (Nipaluna / Hobart)
Troth are the Nipaluna, Lutruwita based duo of Amelia Besseny and Cooper Bowman. Their new album, The Limits of a Light Touch, is the first release on their own imprint, Dearest Latest, following albums for several beacons of the global underground, including Night School, A Colourful Storm, Discreet Music, among others.
TLOALT finds Troth approaching a sideways pop music perhaps more directly than ever before, expanding on an approach intrinsic to their DNA; immersion in nature, a constantly shifting dialogue with each other and a strong commitment to sustaining a vital global DIY community.
This is communicated through a refined musical language that blends ambient-pop, wired-folk, blurry trip hop slows and dubbed experimentalism.
They are excited to return to Eastmint, one of the warmest and most welcoming DIY spaces in so-called Australia.
Early World (Naarm / Melbourne)
Early World is a new project by Francis Plagne and Mary MacDougall.
Tender pop music bent out of shape with strange harmonies and puzzling production choices, touches of absurdity. James Rushford will guest on the keys.
Francis has released recordings on labels such as Horn of Plenty, Black Truffle, Kye Records, Penultimate Press and his own Mould Museum imprint.
Mary has released recordings with MP Hopkins as Warm Currency on Horn of Plenty and with MP Hopkins and Christopher Schueler as The Bowles on Kye Records.
J.McFarlane (Tarntanya / Adelaide)
J.McFarlane is an Adelaide based project of Julia McFarlane. Her albums (under the J. McFarlane’s Reality Guest moniker) “Ta Da“ and “Whoopee” have been released by Hobbies Galore, Felt Sense and Glasgow’s Night School Records. She is interested in crafting song and improvising within DIY traditions.
Her releases consistently inhabit the realm of leftfield pop - while the latter explores deeper bass heavy grooves, lounge, and space-age pop -created in collaboration with Thomas Kernot. (Angel Wash, Uriel’s Bath)
Usually performed in fluid configurations and typically resistant to presenting old material, the songs of J. McFarlane’s Reality Guest will be performed as J. McFarlane with accompaniments on recorder and voice by Anna Cunningham.
