2026 MCC Greg Hjorth Open Weekender

Melbourne Chess Club's premier annual tournament held in the memory of Greg Hjorth, a former club champion who passed away in 2011.

Where: Melbourne Chess Club. 66 Leicester St. Fitzroy, 3065.

Format: 9 round Swiss

Time Control: 90 minutes per game + 30 seconds per move. Forfeit time is 30 minutes after scheduled round start time.

Entry Fee:

$120 Full Member, $110 Concession / Junior Member (add $15 for Non-Members)

Free entry for GMs/WGMs, IMs/WIMs and MCC member FMs/WFMs if entered by Saturday 3 October, 50% discount to applicable entry fee if entered after 3 October

$15 early bird discount if paid by Saturday 3 October.

If you want a round 1 bye you must have have fully paid your entry to be paired. Refunds are available if notified 24 hours before the event.

Prizes: $8000+ Prize pool guaranteed

1st: $2500

2nd: $1600

3rd: $1000

4th: $600

5 Rating Groups:

1st: $300, 2nd: $200 (each rating group)

Unrated: Free entry to another MCC tournament.

Hjorth Junior: $150 (biggest FIDE rating upset by a junior player)

Brilliancy Prize: $40 book voucher prize.

Byes: Players may take 2 half point byes in rounds 1-7.

Rating: The event will be FIDE and ACF rated.
