Cantando Choir is preparing to set sail on a swashbuckling musical adventure with the concert version of Gilbert and Sullivan’s much-loved comic operetta, The Pirates of Penzance.
Packed with memorable melodies, larger-than-life characters and plenty of humour, Pirates tells the wonderfully improbable story of Frederic, a young man mistakenly apprenticed to a band of tender-hearted pirates. Add a formidable Pirate King, the beautiful Mabel, a troop of
somewhat nervous policemen and the famously tongue-twisting Major-General, and all the ingredients are in place for a wonderfully entertaining evening of music and comedy.
Under the direction of Cantando Music Director Kolitha Jayatunge, the choir will be joined by a talented cast of soloists, with David Hall at the piano and Jane Barnett guiding the story as narrator.
This concert brings Cantando’s 2026 season to a joyful close and promises an evening of laughter, wonderful music and some of Gilbert and Sullivan’s most enduring favourites.
