177 Nations of Tasmania is a long-term documentary project by photographer Andrew Wilson and interviewer Mark Thomson, bringing together portraits and personal stories from people who have made Tasmania their home.
The project has now documented people from more than 130 nations, creating a portrait of contemporary Tasmania that is far more diverse than many people realise.
This exhibition presents a curated selection of 21 large-format portraits as part of the Head On Photo Festival 2026 Open Program.
Visitors can also discover the stories behind the faces through recorded interviews linked from each portrait.
All 21 exhibition prints will be available through an online silent auction during the exhibition. The auction will first help cover the costs of displaying the printed works, with any remaining proceeds then shared equally between the Migrant Resource Centre Tasmania and Andrew’s ongoing work on 177 Nations of Tasmania.
