THE STORY

My name is Elena, and many of you know how passionate I am about Kizomba and Semba. I fell in love with Kizomba 15 years ago in London, and since then Angola has become a very special place for me — one I continue to visit regularly.

For quite some time now I have been dreaming of bringing one of those amazing dancers from Angola to Newcastle…. It looks like it is finally happening! 😁

ABOUT FÁNIO

Fanio de Araújo (also known as Mr. Tukina) is an acclaimed Angolan professional dancer, instructor, and choreographer celebrated globally for his mastery of Kizomba and Semba. Based in Lisbon and Luanda, he serves as a premier cultural ambassador for authentic Angolan dance and is a proud member of Tukina dance group.

Renowned for preserving the traditional essence of Kizomba and Semba, Fanio’s style combines a smooth, grounded flow with impeccable musicality. His movement seamlessly balances technical precision with vibrant energy, flawless weight changes, and creative transitions.

I first met Fánio and the whole Tukina team during my first trip to Angola in 2018, where I was instantly captivated by his beautiful dance style, exceptional musicality, and precise leading. Eight years later, Fánio is a true global Kizomba celebrity, traveling the world to share his passion and knowledge at major international festivals.

We are absolutely thrilled to welcome him back to Australia for his third tour, and first time ever right here to Newcastle!

Get ready for an incredible weekend of world-class workshops, deep cultural insights, and endless opportunities to dance. Don't miss the chance to learn from one of the absolute best in the industry!

ABOUT SEVERINE

Séverine Coulanges is a highly respected, Brisbane-based Kizomba and Semba instructor who focuses deeply on authentic Angolan culture, connection, and body mechanics. In addition to her extensive dance background, she is a qualified Pilates instructor and body psychotherapist. This unique background informs her teaching style, allowing her to help dancers connect deeply with their own bodies, regulate their nervous systems, and develop a more natural movement flow.

ABOUT THE MUSIC

Music is probably the most important part of any dance. It inspires movement, awakens feelings that touch our hearts, and helps create the connection we feel on the dance floor.

We’re very lucky to have DJ Cue-T (Cutie) bringing the music for the weekend. With a deep passion for Kizomba, Semba and Angolan music, she has invested considerable time in developing her knowledge, including learning and DJing in Angola.

I personally admire her dedication, her love for the music and the work she continues to put into her craft.

Expect plenty of beautiful music to keep us dancing throughout the weekend!
