Purple Pilgrims + Mercury Fèng

Fri 11 Dec 7pm - 11pm

Vogelmorn Hall, Wellington

Ethereal sister duo Purple Pilgrims return this December to bewitch Vogelmorn Hall with songs from their much-anticipated new album Given To The Night, out November 27 through Flying Nun and AD93.

Clementine and Valentine Nixon made the record far from the world. They deleted social media, let only a handful of people into the studio and, in their words, "recorded songs as they appeared, which sometimes felt like catching light." The 11 tracks that resulted are about leaning into the night, "preferring its blurry cloak of shadows to the harsh light of day," and about holding onto a spark of hope through heartbreak. Floating guitar lines, tangled synths, tape hiss and the sisters' twinned voices give it the kaleidoscopic haze-pop sound that has drawn comparisons to Cocteau Twins and Dead Can Dance.

Purple Pilgrims have toured with Weyes Blood and Aldous Harding and collaborated with The Chills and Roy Montgomery. Lead single "Innocence Lost" opens the album, and it should be quite something to hear it in the intimate wooden glow of Vogelmorn Hall.

With Flying Nun and now AD93 announcing their breathlessly anticipated new album Given To The Night, out November 27, ethereal sister duo Purple Pilgrims will be entrancing us all with their new work at Kāhui St David’s on Khyber Pass, Saturday 5 December.
