Oil Portrait Painting Fundamentals with Mark Whippy

Wed 14 Oct 9:30am - 12:30pm

Mairangi Arts Centre, Auckland

WEDNESDAY 9:30AM-12:30PM, LEVEL: ALL LEVELS

In this course we will learn how to draw the human face with oil paint. Learning fundamentals of seeing proportions, spatial relationships, light, forms and shadow while leaving room for personal expression and mark making. We will learn to view and interpret the bigger shapes of our subjects as well as lessons on understanding the individual human features to help us with our own projects. Starting off with monochrome underpaintings before expanding into various limited and complimentary colour palettes. We will practice studies from old masters, but students are also welcome to bring in their own personal images to work from as their own projects.
