Public Art Making with free drop-in creative workshops. People of all ages come pop in for 10 minutes or for hours and discover the power of experimental drawing. Held in a vacant retail space close to the entrance to the building - using dots, lines and squiggles we invite you to respond to the station's grand architecture and railway network maps through art-making. We’ll have different ‘stations’ in which we’ll invite you to get ‘sidetracked’ or even, through light projection of your work ‘see the light at the end of the tunnel’!
You can then choose to share your work in a digital gallery by taking a photo and tagging Squiggla on Instagram or Facebook.
Celebrating public art, heritage and transport, Squiggla is a joyful collaborative creative intervention encouraging people to slow down and get inventive with mark making. No mistakes, only opportunities.
Developed in Aotearoa New Zealand by the Chartwell Trust, Squiggla is a hands-on creative visual thinking programme, with events held nationally in different locations to encourage direct engagement by the public in art through mark-making. "We increasingly know the importance of creativity for well-being and no matter what age you are, you can exercise and train to think more creatively."
Squiggla by Train is part of the Urban Dream Station Series, a public art series at the Wellington Railway Station being run by Urban Dream Brokerage. The programme is brought to you with the support of Kiwirail, Metlink and Transdev.
