When their plan to book a show at the Rivoli goes horribly wrong, Matt and Jay accidentally travel back to the year 2008.
Matt Johnson and Jay McCarrol- aka Nirvanna the Band- accidentally travel back in time to September 26th, 2008. Therefore I have decided that this is now Nirvanna The Band The Show The Movie Day. I am allowed to do this, you cannot stop me. Come and enjoy one of the most fun, audacious and unique comedies of recent years and, frankly, an insane feat of filmmaking.
The filmmakers themselves advise the best way to enjoy this film is in a full cinema; they also advise going in blind so, no, you don't need to have seen the TV show they did before this (you can watch it if you like though, I'm not the boss of you.)
In case you needed further convincing (what, my word isn't enough??), Nirvanna The Band The Show The Movie currently sits as the second-highest rated film of the year on Letterboxd, and has even made it into the Top 200 of All Time! It's also sitting nicely with 97% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Director and star Matt Johnson also directed and starred in BlackBerry, The Dirties, Operation Avalanche and the upcoming Anthony Bourdain movie, Tony. Jay McCarrol is the brilliant composer on those films, as well as this one, and was in the synth-pop band Brave Shores. More importantly, I like this movie and wanna show it to a bunch of people.
Screening at 8.30pm but pop on down early for a drink at Champagne Video's lovely front bar.
