🎵 Beautiful Chamber Music with a Magical View🎵 Comfy Concert🎻 Saturday 24 October, 4 - 6PM
Relax with a cuppa and enjoy exquisite live music from The Chamber Pot Pourri Ensemble & special guests!
The Comfy Concert on 24 October features Anna Gawn, mezzo soprano (formerly of the Kugels klezmer band), Anna van der Zee (violin), Nick Hancox (viola), Ross Harris (accordion), alongside Helene Pohl (violin) and Rolf Gjelsten (cello). This is a very special event - a launch of new CD Moriamur and with performances by top classical musicians. The afternoon is headlined by a klezmer-inspired song-cycle for mezzo soprano and string quartet by Harris, along with a vivacious violin-cello duo by Erwin Schulhoff.
Two pieces composed by Ross Harris will be performed at the Comfy Concert in Roseneath on Saturday 24th. Harris, Arts Laureate and one of New Zealand's most revered and versatile composers, wrote both pieces specially for Anna Gawn, who will perform for us this afternoon! The first, is a world premiere of Moriamur for mezzo soprano and string quartet - a song cycle based on the story of doomed love of Dido and Aeneas, with words taken from the 4th Book of Virgil's The Aeneid. The second work (Songs for Dark Times) is a series of songs for mezzo soprano, string quartet and accordion, originally written for the klezmer group The Kugels.
