From Chaos to Calm: an embodied exploration of your nervous system

Thu 15 Oct 9:30am - 12:30pm

Heathcote Valley Community Centre, Christchurch

Many of us live incredibly busy and full lives, juggling family, friends, work, errands, hobbies, and more. And it can feel like we’re doomed to be a little bit stressed out all the time - just the cost of living in today’s world.

This near-constant state of activation is our body’s way of keeping us safe from all the perceived threats - a beautiful safety mechanism, helping us to navigate a sense of threat through physiological changes that leave us energised, quick to respond, and focused on the immediate. All of which can be great for escaping threats!

Sometimes, though, we need access to the version of ourselves that can collaborate, innovate and solve problems, learn and experiment and be creative. And these skills cannot happen when we're fully in a threat state - so we need to learn new ways of self-regulation that help bridge our stressful lives with our ability to be present, calm, and connected.

This workshop offers an opportunity to learn more about your nervous system in an experiential, embodied way. You’ll build an understanding of what the nervous system is and how it works. More importantly, you’ll spend time learning about your own states and building practices to shape how you show up in your life and with those around you, to create more space and steadiness in your everyday life.

The skills, tools, and ideas you’ll gather in this workshop are useful for all humans - wherever you are, your nervous system is right there with you. Come learn some of the basics and start to build a relationship with your own nervous system.

Cost - flexible, pay what feels right (ranges from koha to $50 pp)

Your facilitator - Becky Collett from Rehumanise

I've spent my entire life fascinated by humans and how they human, in and out of work. I believe that so many of the challenges we face today cannot be met without our systems and cultures moving towards a more equitable, collective, relational, and humble way of seeing the world.

I'm committed to exploring how I can support other people to learn and unlearn towards deeper connections, more spaciousness, wild curiosity, and the ability to sit with discomfort.

I have over a decade of experience in people leadership, qualifications in applied psychology, neuroleadership, and a huge amount of curiosity and enthusiasm for better understanding the nervous system.

I can't wait to have this conversation with you.
