About the Medicine Buddha
Bhaisajyaguru—also known as the Medicine Buddha, the "Medicine Master Lapis Lazuli Light Tathagata," the "Great Healing King," or the "King of the Twelve Vows"—is the presiding Buddha of the Eastern Pure Land of Lapis Lazuli. In Tibetan Buddhism, he is depicted with a head of coiled hair and a body resembling lapis lazuli, radiating a serene and tranquil blue light. In his left hand, he holds a medicine bowl filled with a miraculous nectar, while his right hand holds a haritaki (myrobalan) fruit. He possesses the power to heal all the illnesses and sufferings of the world, bestowing upon sentient beings boundless light, wisdom, and merit, while also extending the span of their lives.
