**A Deeply Immersive, Darkened Sound Capsule.
Amplified ancient instruments. Deep sub-bass immersion.**
The Mary Potter Community Centre in Christchurch is considered perfect for Sika’s Sound Journeys due to its unique architectural design and materials, which create an immersive acoustic environment.
The venue features a magnificent eight-sided (octagonal) layout.
Sika's Multi-Textured Soundscapes: Sika’s performances are deeply earthy and complex. He blends heavy, low-frequency didgeridoos and drums with native flutes, orchestral elements, and foraged objects from nature (like leaves, stones, and shells). The resonant wooden walls and high, shaped ceilings amplify the delicate textures of these natural sounds while allowing the deep vibrations of the drums and didgeridoo to reverberate beautifully through the bodies of participants lying down.
Closing the curtains and playing through speakers turns the Mary Potter Community Centre into a hyper-focused, cinematic like, sound capsule.
Sika Sound Journeys are globally celebrated because they transcend standard sound baths, creating an immersive experience often described as "something between an ancient ceremony and a movie soundtrack". Based in New Zealand and boasting over 30 years of deep ceremonial practice, Sika is a recognized pioneer who bridges ancient earth wisdom with dynamic sound artistry.
Several key elements make Sika’s Sound Journeys highly sought-after worldwide:
A Masters Collection of World Instruments
Sika uses an array of ancient, primal, and rare instruments collected from or gifted by global indigenous cultures. Rather than staying in one spot, he moves dynamically around the room, allowing participants to physically feel the vibrations reverberating through their bodies. His toolkit features:
• The Didgeridoo: Providing a deeply grounding, resonant low-frequency base.
• Māori Taonga Pūoro: Traditional New Zealand "singing treasures" (like the pūtātara, hue, and kōauau) that introduce haunting, unusual "voices" to the room.
• Native American Style Flutes & Hoop Drums: Adding melodic, sweeping airscapes and steady, organic, trance-inducing rhythms.
