Join us for a special In Conversation event with Queensland College of Art & Design (QCAD) alum Deb Mostert to celebrate the release of her new publication a sketchbook practice!

Deb will reflect on her 30-year career and creative process since graduating from QCAD, and share insights from her extraordinary studio, set in bushland just outside Brisbane, as well as her recent publishing collaboration with award-winning micropress Tiny Owl Workshop.

Deb will be joined by Sue Wright from Tiny Owl Workshop, who will share how she left a career in civil service to become an unsung hero of Australian art book publishing, supporting independent artists to create award-winning publications.

Copies of a sketchbook practice will be available to purchase on the night.

About Deb Mostert:

Deb Mostert's three-decade-long practice is grounded in observational drawing, but also spans painting, sculpture and public art, to investigate objects as metaphors, collections as carriers of our stories and museums as repositories of our collective archives.

She holds a Bachelor of Fine Art from the Queensland College of Art & Design and has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions through Australia. A multi-award winning artist, she has been included in major art prizes such as the Eutick Memorial Still Life Award, the Bale Painting Prize, the Archibald/Wynne Prize Salon de Refuses, Jacaranda Drawing Prize, and the Marie Ellis Prize for Drawing.

About Tiny Owl Workshop:

Tiny Owl Workshop is an award-winning micropress and studio based in Brisbane (Magandjin) that "loves making good stuff with good people." Begun in 2012, it is a member of the Small Press Network and supports the Australian Society of Authors.

Their awards include a PICA Gold Medal, a Shorty Award, and the Stanthorpe Art Prize (3D category), and their publications have won and/or made the shortlist of major literary prizes, winning Best Anthology at the 2024 Aurealis Awards.
