Experience familiar streets through fresh eyes and hear the stories behind the artworks.

Design in Public explores the interesting considerations and conundrums of designing artwork for everyone. Experience familiar streets through fresh eyes, hear the stories behind the artworks, and have a chance to speak to some the hear from some the artists involved in Whanganui’s public art.

This series of free talks will showcase Whanganui’s creative history through public artworks designed by emerging, local and nationally significant artists in the town centre. There will be two three sessions for this event, one on foot and the others will be on wheels,

so make sure you pick the right fit. Children (16 or younger) should be accompanied by a parent.

Tour on Foot: Friday 23rd October, 2:30-3:30pm – a short and sweet survey of 10 artworks in our arts precinct for those who prefer a stroll.

Tour on Wheels: Sunday 18 th October 1pm-2:30pm and Sunday 25th October, 1pm- 2:30pm – a tour on wheels that rolls into a wider selection of artworks. BYO bicycle or scooter or hire a bike from the Riverboat Centre.
