Join ceramic artist Antoinette O'Brien for a 4-hour workshop exploring miniature porcelain sculpture, developed alongside her current exhibition It Becomes Light on display at the Northern Rivers Community Gallery (NRCG) from 15 October – 6 December 2026.

Participants will learn hand-building techniques for small-scale figurative or other forms, working with the medium of porcelain and its particular demands. The session includes a guided tour of the exhibition with the artist, offering insight into the ideas, materials, and processes behind the work on display.

No prior ceramics experience is required to attend this workshop – it is suitable for beginners and those looking to develop existing skills.

Ticket price includes all tools and materials, and a bisque kiln firing of finished works.

Artist Bio

Antoinette O’Brien’s work explores the figure within the social and the natural world. Animating her mixed media ceramics are the joys, anger, pleasures, alienation, and deep connections felt for both popular culture as well as sea, sky and soil. Educated at Tasmania University and Lismore TAFE ceramics department, O’Brien’s innovative work was recently awarded TAFE Outstanding Achievement (2020), Hurford Hardwood Portrait Prize (2020), and Franz Porcelain Design Scholarship (2019). O’Brien has exhibited widely, notably at Lismore Regional Gallery, Tweed Regional Gallery and Yogja National Gallery, Indonesia. O’Brien’s work has appeared in Australian Ceramics Journal (2019,2020) and Art Edit and Interior Design (2021).

Antoinette O’Brien will take part in an artist talk with fellow exhibiting artists Van Sowerwine and Isobel Knowles at NRCG on Saturday 14 November.
