Two new one act plays…

LAF is excited at presenting these two new works with Lyttelton local writers Chris Brown and Patrick Hayes.

A contrasting evening of tragedy and comedy to challenge the audience emotionally with a moving story of two teenagers based on true events called ‘Pact’ at 7.30pm followed by an absurdist comedy about marriage and change called ‘Washing Up’ at 8.30pm.

Pact

Direct, powerful, funny. Pact draws the audience into the world of Jimmy and Sean and ultimately to the tragic decision they feel compelled to make. This short play is based on the true story of two boys. The play shows how six vividly portrayed individuals live their day to day lives and how they respond to pressures beyond their control. The strength of Pact lies in the truthfulness and economy of its staging and in the consequential richness of its implications.

Washing Up

A kitchen sink, a pile of dishes and a marriage with more than a few stubborn stains. Brenda and Trevor have been together for years, their lives shaped by routine, family and Brenda’s unwavering faith. But beneath the familiar domestic rituals, things are beginning to bubble over.

As old assumptions are challenged and uncomfortable truths edge their way into the open, even the simplest conversation can take an unexpected turn. Warm, sharp and funny, Washing Up is a comedy about marriage, family, faith and change — and discovering that some things are much harder to clean up than others.
