Intermediate Upholstery Workshop

Webbing, Padding & Air Stapling Techniques

Skill Level: Intermediate

(Participants should already be comfortable with basic hand tools and simple fabric fixing.)

Workshop Purpose

This workshop builds practical, transferable upholstery skills used in professional furniture repair and making. The focus is on structural seat preparation, correct webbing installation, and controlled use of pneumatic stapling tools to achieve durable, clean, and repeatable results.

Learning Outcomes

Participants will be able to:

Select appropriate webbing, staples, and fixing methods based on furniture type and load requirements

Safely operate and maintain pneumatic stapling equipment

Install and tension webbing accurately to provide long‑term structural support

Build and assess upholstery layers for comfort, durability, and shape

Apply top fabric with controlled tension and professional finish

Diagnose and correct common upholstery failures and workmanship faults

Materials & Equipment

Pneumatic upholstery staplers

Air compressor, hoses, moisture traps

Upholstery staples (fine wire, medium wire, varied leg lengths)

Jute webbing, elastic webbing (where applicable)

Webbing stretcher

Upholstery frames or prepared practice bases

Hammers and manual tacks (for comparison and corrections)

Tack lifters and staple removers

Scissors, rulers, chalk or pencil

Hessian/burlap

Foam, batting, or traditional stuffing materials

Personal protective equipment (eye and hearing protection)

Course Content

  1. Workshop Orientation & Safety Foundations

Clarification of workshop scope: structural upholstery rather than decorative trimming
