On October 17th from 7pm, The House Geelong will host an open mic for poets, storytellers & singer-songwriters. Each performer gets roughly 5 minutes. Sign up when you get to The House!

The House will provide a mic, a keyboard, and a guitar (e standard) with capo - you provide the wordwork.

Gold coin upon entry for performers and audience members - free for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

FAQ

Can I perform for shorter/longer than 5 minutes? A: You can perform for as short as you like, but 5 minutes is the loose time given for longer performances. Depending on how large the list of performers is, you may have the opportunity to take the stage for a second time later in the event for a further 5 minutes.

Do I have to perform my own poetry/song? A: No, plenty of people read other authors’ poetry and you are welcome to do so, but you are also encouraged to write your own.

Does the song I perform need lyrics? A: yes, the emphasis of the event is the written word. Wordwork is not the correct event for purely instrumental pieces.

How long does the event run? A: This is difficult to answer, as it can and has ranged from an hour to three hours. It just depends on the people who come!

Can I book a time to perform before the event? A: No, you must sign up at the door.

Can I bring my own instrument? A: Sure, but space is tight when we have big crowds, so all instruments will be kept behind the stage area until your performance.
