LOST LAND (HARÀ WATAN) - Film Screening and Discussion

Tue 10 Nov 6pm - 9:20pm

Queensland Multicultural Centre, Brisbane

Join us at QMC for a special evening screening of Lost Land, the first-ever Rohingya-language feature film – Lost Land (Hara Watan).

This screening is more than a film event—it is an opportunity to change lives. Funds raised will help provide refugee and stateless Rohingya children in Malaysia with access to education and essential support. For children excluded from formal schooling, a safe classroom offers far more than lessons: it provides stability, confidence and hope for a brighter future. Your support can help build these vital learning spaces and give Rohingya children the chance to learn, grow and reach their full potential.

LOST LAND (HARÀ WATAN)

A powerful journey of survival, hope and the search for home.

The first-ever Rohingya-language feature film, Lost Land is directed by Akio Fujimoto and co-produced by Rohingya filmmaker and community advocate Sujauddin Karimuddin of Elom Initiatives. Told entirely in Rohingya and featuring a largely non-professional Rohingya cast, the film brings the community’s language, experiences and voices to the international screen.

The story follows nine-year-old Somira and her four-year-old brother Shafi as they leave a refugee camp in Bangladesh on a dangerous journey towards Malaysia, hoping to reunite with their family. Through the children’s eyes, we experience the fear of separation, the kindness of strangers and the determination to find somewhere to call home.

Winner of three major international awards:

• Special Orizzonti Jury Prize — Venice International Film Festival 2025

• Golden Yusr for Best Feature Film — Red Sea International Film Festival 2025

• Jury Grand Prize — Asia Pacific Screen Awards 2025
