ROSS BY NIGHT
Stars, Stories and Photography
Are you a photography enthusiast, curious beginner or avid stargazer?
Enjoy three unforgettable experiences in one evening:-
๐ A guided night walk through historic Ross.
๐ท An introduction to night and astro photography.
๐ญ A stargazing experience with constellations and the possibility of seeing the Aurora.
As daylight fades, Ross transforms into something truly wonderful. Historic sandstone buildings glow beneath the stars, the picturesque streets fall silent, and the vast Tasmanian sky comes alive above one of Australia's most beautiful heritage villages.
Join local photographer and visual artist Scott Bennett for an intimate evening exploring both the village and the night sky. Throughout this memorable experience he will share the places, techniques and stories that have inspired more than fifteen years of photographing Ross and the Aurora Australis.
During this 3-hour guided tour he will demonstrate the techniques of photographing after dark using mobile phones and professional camera equipment. You will discover the art behind great astro - landscape photographs and be given practical tips to improve your own photography. You'll visit some of Ross's most iconic locations as he explains camera settings, composition and low-light photography against the backdrop of the stars.
Scott will also introduce you to the constellations visible above Ross and highlight fascinating features of our own Milky Way, making this an enjoyable experience for photographers and stargazers alike. If nature puts on a show, you may even witness and photograph the breathtaking Aurora Australis dancing across the southern horizon.
As the evening draws to a close, warm up indoors with a cup of hot cocoa while Scott shares some of his favourite images - discuss how he incorporates artistic vision into his photography, demonstrates how a photograph evolves through editing, and have your questions arising from the tour answered in a relaxed Q and A.
Whether you come to learn, create or simply admire the beauty of Tasmania's night sky, Scott's knowledge of the local landscape and passion for the night sky make this a unique opportunity and you will leave seeing Ross in a whole new light.
Please note: This is an all-weather event. If conditions are unsuitable for outdoor photography, the session will continue indoors with demonstrations, presentations and discussions.
