Sika’s music relies heavily on field recordings of nature, drums, flutes, shells, stones, and deep didgeridoo pulses.
The Inkbox at the Oamaru Opera House is uniquely tailored for a Sika Sound Journey because its architecture perfectly aligns with the immersive, physical nature of Sika’s shamanic sound healing.
Sika’s journeys require participants to lie flat on the floor to enter a deep, meditative state. The Inkbox features fully retractable seating, transforming the space into a wide, open floor where attendees can comfortably lay down with mats and blankets. This flat floor is crafted from historic rimu timber, a resonant hardwood that acts as a natural acoustic conductor. As Sika plays his didgeridoo and deep hoop drums, participants do not just hear the music—they physically feel the raw, low-frequency vibrations pulsing directly through the floorboards into their bodies.
Furthermore, the venue's black-box design creates a dark, "inky" void that minimizes external visual distractions. This sensory deprivation helps quiet the conscious mind, allowing listeners to journey effortlessly into their inner landscapes. Because Sika loops highly delicate, natural sounds like stones, shells, and leaves alongside haunting flutes, the intimate acoustics of the space ensure that every subtle sonic texture is preserved with pristine, spine-tingling clarity.
