Heaps Decent: Behind the Music: Creative Careers and Pathways

Sat 3 Oct 10am - 11:30am

Randwick Town Hall, Sydney

Part of Randwick City Council's Town Hall Takeover.

Heaps Decent will transform Randwick Town Hall into a vibrant creative hub through a free week-long youth program spanning music, digital media and multidisciplinary arts. Evening workshops will invite the wider community to create alongside artists, culminating in a public showcase celebrating the original work and talent developed throughout the week.

About this panel talk

What does it take to build a life and career in music and the creative industries?

Behind the Music brings together artists and industry professionals for an honest and practical conversation about creative careers. Panellists will share their experiences of developing an artistic practice, finding collaborators, navigating opportunities and setbacks, and building sustainable pathways within a changing cultural landscape.

The discussion will explore the many roles that exist across music and the arts, both on stage and behind the scenes. It will also consider how emerging artists can develop their networks, communicate their ideas, access support and create opportunities within their own communities.

Designed for young people, emerging creatives and anyone curious about the realities of creative work, the session will conclude with an audience question-and-answer discussion. No previous industry experience is required, and attendance is open to the broader community.
