Richard Tognetti directs the Australian Chamber Orchestra from the violin in Mozart’s final three symphonies, joined by wind and brass players using instruments of Mozart’s era. Written during six weeks in the summer of 1788, the works trace a distinctive arc: the stately, gentle Symphony No. 39; the profound, forward-looking Symphony No. 40; and the heroic Symphony No. 41, “Jupiter,” whose finale brings Mozart’s symphonic career to a decisive close.
