‘TL;DR carves space for deep listening, sonically drifting in ways that invite the listener in’ – Jazzwise
ARIA-nominated Melbourne quartet TL;DR make hypnotic, minimal, groove-based music drawing on Brian Eno, Jon Hassell, and The Necks, weaving these influences into a sound that defies categorisation. Led by trumpeter and composer Peter Knight, the group represents some of the most inventive voices in Australian improvised music today.
Performing their second album, Phosphenes, the quartet arrives on stage with a deepened musical language and a new body of work exploring the light patterns perceived behind closed eyes. Their music continues to traverse the territory the group has staked out as its own, further refining an approach built on Knight's prepared trumpet and electronics, Svoboda's floating soprano and resonant bass, Carbo's textural guitar, and Quinn Knight's shimmering, cymbal-rich drumming.
Praise for Peter Knight and TL;DR
‘Sure, there are shades here of Miles’ electric outings, Jon Hassell’s Fourth World Music, The Necks’ slow burn improvisations. But TL;DR has wedged its own unique sound palette into the mix, mystical undercurrents, layered patterns, ambient snatches…’ – Rhythms Magazine
‘A shimmering pull and push runs through ‘Cirrus’ from TL;DR and Peter Knight, weightless and grounded all at once.’ – Foxy Digitalis
‘Melds jazz, electronica, ambient minimalism and free improvisation to something quietly transcendent. Something that shimmers. TL;DR carves space for deep listening, sonically drifting in ways that invite the listener in, then rewards them for their time.’ – Jazzwise
‘Stylish and intelligent.’ – Kill Yr Idols
Please note, this concert was rescheduled from Friday 13 November to Friday 16 October.
